The yoruba Engagement is a customary form of marriage for the Yorubas,there is usually a ceremony which is held which would involve formally handing over the bride to the Groom family,prior to the ceremony a traditional list is usually given to the Groom which contains things the Grooms family would need to present to the bride.
The Engagement ceremony usually requires the use of the Alaga Ijoko and the Alaga Iduro.The Alaga ijoko which in English is also refered to as the Master of ceremony representing the bride family,while the alaga iduro which is also a master of ceremony representing the grooms family.
Both Alagas represents and speak on behalf of each family represented as well as accepts gifts and presents on behalf of the family represented.
